Ministry Groups

Ministry groups are one of the things that make The Water's Edge unique. (See our FAQ's for others.) They are designed to encourage individuals who regularly attend TWE to pursue a Christ-centered life, and to help equip them for advancing God’s kingdom in their homes, at church, and in the community.

Groups are comprised of 8 to 12 adults and meet in the leaders' homes for a few hours every other week.  Every ministry group has a mix of believers; some who have walked with the believers for years, others who are young in the faith, seekers, etc.  Their formation is based mostly on connections, using relationships to draw new people in.

The main portion of a ministry group meeting is to check in on each other by asking, "What has God been doing in your life, and what do you need Him to do?"  and then responding with Biblical encouragement, admonishment, and prayer. Groups also may do a Bible or book study.  Right now, we are all reading through Crazy Love by Francis Chan.

Ministry groups are a way for our people to make connections outside of Sunday mornings.  Our hope and prayer is that these relationships then enable everyone to grow deeper in their knowledge and love for Jesus Christ and each other.  They're a great tool to get advice on how to live a Christian lifestyle at home, work, etc.

Each ministry group has a care group underneath it.  Care groups are made of people who are more loosely connected to TWE or are just starting to get involved in the church.  Praying and watching out for their care groups gives ministry group members a way to be Christ's hands and feet to those around us.

Ministry groups are also encouraged to find ways to reach out to the community of Duluth.  This usually occurs through members' relationships at work or in their neighborhood, doing things such as helping someone move.
