Pastor Bill
Pastor Bill and Laurie Ness were both born in Austin, Minnesota and met while in High School. Bill had a heart for the Lord while growing up, but it wasn’t until he was 26 that he attended a retreat and learned the truth about the need for a personal relationship with Jesus. Prior to that, his faith-walk was one of trying to be “good-enough” and “doing the right things”… but he often failed and had essentially given up. At that retreat, Bill heard testimonies from men whose lives had been radically transformed by the saving grace of the Lord Jesus Christ and not by any works of their own. He confessed his sin, repented, and committed his life to Jesus as Lord and Master.
From that point on, Bill served the Lord in lay capacity in many different aspects of church work. For many years Laurie and Bill had a music ministry and were able to minister God’s Word and music to people from many denominational backgrounds and across several States. Then, after moving to Wadena County, God called Bill out of his career-job as Assistant County Engineer and into full time ministry. Bill pursued training through the Christian and Missionary Alliance and received his certificate and licensing in Pastoral Ministries, then continued on to study for and receive Ordination.
Prior to his call to serve in Duluth, Bill served as Associate Pastor for the Verndale Alliance Church in Verndale, MN and as the Senior Pastor at Northland Alliance Church in Remer, MN. In 2014 God began moving in Bill’s heart, preparing him for his next call which would come in February of 2015. In that call, God led Bill to serve at Lincoln Park Community Church in Duluth, MN. He began as Pastor there in April 2015.
In April 2018, Lincoln Park Community Church merged with The Water’s Edge Community Church as a way to expand the light of God’s presence in the Twin-Ports region.
Bill has a great desire to see churches operate in a healthy-biblical model and for each one in the
congregation to be discipled and mentored into a life of faith that is fully given over to serving Jesus and reaching the lost.
In his spare time, Bill enjoys opportunities to go camping with his family, hiking with Laurie, and
spending time on the local streams with his fly rod, meeting with God… and occasionally landing a brook trout.
2 Timothy 1:9 … [He] saved us and called us to a holy calling, not because of our works but because of his own purpose and grace, which he gave us in Christ Jesus before the ages began.
